Merion Friends Meeting
615 Montgomery Avenue
Merion Station, PA 19066
In 1999 the federal government designated Merion Friends Meeting a National Historic Landmark, and an extensive study was undertaken of the construction and design of the 17th century meeting house. Built by Welsh Quakers, it is a unique wood structure that featured expert carpentry and was raised on a busy site used by native Lenape for moving along streams.
The Meeting House and the surrounding campus, being several centuries in age, require preservation and updating. The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission awarded the Meeting a seed grant to begin a planning study to:
-hire surveyors, historical architects, engineers, and estimators to inspect the buildings and grounds
-raise funds to complete the initial study (phase I)
