The Future is Bright - album for ̶k̶i̶d̶s̶ young at heart by duo City Love

Melinda Yin • Oct 10, 2019

City Love is a West Philly duo who put social justice and education at the core of their music.

Welcome to your new activism soundtrack. Get ready to agitate, dance, speak, smile, "be the change", groove, stand up, read, write, question, and dream.
Although this album is pitched for children, it is music for everyone. The lyrics are heart-on-sleeve sincere and inspiring. There are spoken interludes from progressive academics like Dr. Peggy McKintosh on fairness and a poem from Dr. Howard Stevenson that employs the phrase "afrodynamic spiritual forcefield" and intensifies from there.
Children from the Philadelphia School sing on two songs including "You, Yes, You", which is a funky exaltation of Ruby Bridges, Malala Yousafzai, and Martin Luther King Jr., and our connection to these change agents.

This album is a beautiful dream to the world; an act of grace to children and activists everywhere.

City Love is Sterling Duns and Caselli.
“In City Love, two gentle, humble teachers and musicians bring us powerful lyrics with mobilizing rhythms—inviting us into a conversation about race in America. They sing about
racial justice in a way that is critical, inspiring and concurrent with the ideas about race and America found in both activist and academic spaces today. A performance from City Love would
be a great way to begin—or sustain—dialogue about race in school. Their music makes you want to dance—sing—cry—speak out—and unite.” - Ali Michael, PhD, Director of Consulting and
Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education

Silent Vigils held to honor the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and the countless known and unknown victims of injustice were organized by Laura Jackson and Melinda Yin. Members, attenders, and allies have been standing in front of the Meeting House from May 29 to June 13, from 30 to 60 minutes in groups of 2-16. The Sisters of Mercy and their friends, joined in the second week. Their spiritual mission encompasses a commitment to social justice, with 5 interdependent critical concerns. These are: non-violence, the earth, immigration, anti-racism, and the condition of women.
